The Old Court House (top, left) at E. City Hall & Bank was built in 1850; originally serving as both City Hall and Court House; was soon outgrown and offices were transferred. The image below is circa mid-1950s. It became the MacArthur Memorial in 1962, and General Douglas MacArthur's final resting place when he died at Walter Reed Army Hospital 14 April 1964 at the age of 84. Prior, his body lay in state in New York City, and in the Capitol Rotunda in Washington. His wife Jean MacArthur played a major role and was very involved in Memorial and Foundation development. She was buried beside the General in the Memorial on January 26, 2000.
