ATARI
1977, remember River Raid (Activision) shoulder patches sent to you (for mailing
in a TV screen snapshot with score). Ms. Pac-Man and Asteroids
were also adequately addictive. If not, would SEGA attempt to topple Sony
& Nintendo?
Paleolithic Donkey Kong
anyone? No CDs on the floor with chewing
gum to scrape or Cheeto® dust to blow off, either. Get adept at Window
Minimizing, if you're not already, for when the boss occasionally happens by your
monitor. How do you think she got so good at Solitaire?
We want to give you an update on the game of all
games...
...our
personal all-time-fab & fave pick for the most excellent game still
is, always was, and likely always will be none other than Toejam & Earl particularly the early 90's SEGA
version). Now
TJ & E III
finally, is available on Xbox platform: we'll have to get back to you on the review, though. We'd
have to buy X-box for just the one game and have just blown the budget on a network hookup
for the PS2. III, for all you funkmeisters, became available in SEGA software, last October.
You see Funkotronians, when Dreamcast® blew big time,
SEGA evidently decided to stick with software, going too-too bust (dreamin') to give
brilliant creators, Greg (Big Earl) Johnson & Mark (ToeJam) Voorsanger, deserved $ --also possibly, since a certain hedgehog was one tired
act, what shoulda' brought in his shingle (double for Knuckles and Tails)
3 or 4 games ago. Toe Jam & Earl III, as with the first game, aims for unique
gaming each time you get comfortable for a marathon. No two games the same-- which
is what endeared them for so many. That's why the original is still Soopa' Fresh afta' all
these years!
With the announcement of the new III game,
TJ&E created an all new web site-- but guys, we will miss the availability of your
earlier site's game .wav files. We are officially putting in our respectful (if not
reverent) request that you restore them to your current site!
You see, R K's the only woman you'll ever meet who's not merely a Funk Lord, but
has also been to Trixie's Island-- "Woo-hoo" (goes the horn). Seriously,
the game helped us know (at this stage, renewal is everything) that anything is
possible. It helped us dream of possibilities. That any challenge taken is worth
a challenge taking.
Panic on Funk-o-Tron is runner up for all-time top game. Why? Why are
these games so beatific? They are funny and tickle you at every twist and
turn. Repeat games won't provide you with the expected. Every game is a new
game. These endearing characters become friends (as TV pals, like Rootie, Ralph, Natasha, Opie: sumbuddy stop
me! )-- they're not just avatars for playing. TJ & E are master problem
solvers, lending their skills to you--- you're not just slashing/dashing as with most
games. In the many levels' nooks & crannies are secret places and once inside,
rewarding bits of brilliance, inspiration and humor. Like Popeye,
it's not just for kids.
It's why we bought two more Genesis cores recently and consider more, before
they're gone forever ($20 now includes a gamepad which goes for $15 solo). You gotta'
yawn when you see DreamCast, Sony & N64. They musta'
forgot the game was the thing.
Uh, we may as well admit it to ol' Mark & Greg here while we're at it. Their
elevator wallpapers were the inspiration here at this dot com. We're
anxiously waiting guys, and whatever platform you pick for TJ&E III, it'll be
just fine with us--- hold out for big $ though, since
you're sure to make whomever you go with, puh-lenty!
After we got the kewlest e-mail from
"Big Earl" --we got another-- and just gotta letchoo read it:
Yo Roberta, Your site looks great! Thanks for the tribute. We had a
great showing at this years E3. Right now were gettin busy finishing up
the game for the fall release. You have a mission, should you choose to accept it. Recover
the 12 sacred "Vinyls of Funk" and track down the heinous Anti-Funk himself.
(gasp) Remember, the only way you're going to succeed is by gettin' down with your bad
self. You know you bad, uh huh.
Well be out on the shelves no later than November, and you
should be seeing reviews in game magazines between now and then. In fact you might want to
keep an eye out for PLAY magazine. Youll know it when you see it. Wed
love to tell you more, but hey, weve got a game to make around here!
PS. Stay funky and never forget that you gotta get up if you're
gonna get down.

Hi RK, Just wanted to say a very heartfelt thanks for the nice
words about our games at your site. Mark and I hereby dub you an honorary
Funkotronian. Its very cool to see that TJ&E touched a meaningful spot for you.
Your writing style is really unique and fun to read! Very cool. Thanks for hoping that we
pull in the big bucks with this next one. We'll be hoping that lady fortune parks her
mobile home in front of your house and refuses to leave.
To answer your question, 'Ready Aim Tomatoes' was a small
ToeJam and Earl-esque game that we did for the Sega® Light Gun. It was actually
bundled with the gun, but I doubt if you could find the gun anymore. We don't even have
one, or a copy of the game here at the office anymore. It re-used graphics from the
original TJ&E game and was actually pretty fun for something that got thrown together
very quickly.
We're not supposed to talk about our new game yet (Publisher's
orders) but I'm looking forward to telling you about it. If you're curious check back on
our site sometime this next spring and we should have some info and graphics to show. I
hope you like this new one (bet you will :).
[Just like Lamont always says... ya can't get up if you don't get
down].
Thanks for letting us know about your cool site. Stay funky.
Big Earl
