saltwater and rust
eye like a
barnacle
wielding a cruel kiss
-------------------
flannel-rag blindfold;
shudder down
and down the down
into the deeper-

shadow-bandits
and hollow cricket calls

the light under
            the door

my hands as they've
            become
-----------------
absorbed into the
    dream of it
like I am water
like I could become
            the rain
or a clock
or a shadow on your
                cheek
consumed
like I am an
            object
in the diorama
    food for thought
bearing your thirst
suffering the song
-----------------
driving under the influence
five days running

out of gas
fuel for fire

sweet-mouth tangle
snap-kiss throwback

dragon at the wheel
-------------------
tiger lilies and
    gravestones
tiptoeing head
--------------
tone deaf collision
in a shudder-slap minute
this secret abortion
this birthday wish gone wrong
----------------------------
only the words most necessary
                    essential
                    the sky will
                    meet you
                    halfway
----------------------
tomatoes on the windowsill
fat hard flesh
absorbing light
in the afterglow of sacrifice
--------------------------

hey, sweet baby,
hey,
    sunflower seed-
urban hum masked
    by green
swollen garden secrets
----------------------
rain like
fever breaking
my body's weight
reasoning with gravity
---------------------
exhaust my fear
quiet my blood

sleep's gate
creaking crooked
by a hinge
----------
cold as Christ
        heavy
eating my bones

down
below the
summer

in the
ghost of it
----------
the ocean moves/ slow/
carrying contagion;
                whisper into a
                        howl-
-----------------------
satisfaction
almost

your silhouette
sharp
against my throat

your shadow's
shadow
crouched for
murder
------
bastard mouth
burns like a fist

a legion of mermaids
sing the blues
-------------
my hands waking
like hungry baby birds

let me see all of you

fields of fear
torn open
---------
street lamps in solidarity
shine on
massaging fire escapes
coaxing light
into the
tangled shadows
as they unravel
and knot
--------
sparrows fallen
to the dirt
hit like hail

like ice in summer
like midnight sun
toppling
--------
