What
about the resume that I sent you, didn't you get it?
What we got was a zip file that was called resume.zip and when unzipped, the
contained file was file.wpd the contents of which, was copied & pasted
by return e-mail to you. When mailing résumés, its best not to send a zip file but a
word document file such as yourname.doc that can be opened in MSWorks or MSWord but can
also be easily copied to your e-mail (a frequent request). Another way to
send text attachments is the PDF file in Adobe Acrobat, since all can be opened, once
downloaded (usually the link to do so is given where the PDF is requested)
but frankly, we don't see many résumé requests for that format. Employers get
annoyed with the many attachment file types (and software versions) which
often, they have to figure out how to open. More frequently, they appreciate your pasting
it into the body of your e-mail.
How do I post
it at Monster.com?
If you research this site you'll learn many ways to use your web résumé; there's helpful
info for you here: Web Résumés: ON USING. Monster no longer
allows HTML (Hyper Text Mark-up Language) but you'll be able to put the
address of your web résumé there along with your e-mail, if desired. Find monster.com
and other good sites at Employment Assistance.
CareerPath is a site co-founded by a half dozen major newspapers
and features about 350,000 jobs. Monster features nearly 200,000. Many smaller sites
use ascii text (no html) which just means you need to copy/paste plain text
(yes, you can do that with your web résumé) but then you can't include
images on these. Our guess is most career sites will eventually allow for html or fade
away, as more people get more net savvy. Some are very annoying for assuming the user is
an idiot, so they break it down into formatted (laborious) sections.
Any
networking advice?
Networking online seems a simpler way to schmooze (try search engines for the
latest) than by going with www.sixdegrees.com (remember them?)
hilariously lampooned by Industry Standard writer, Carl Steadman in The Six Degrees of Carl.
Would
you please send me information on your resume service? My husband is retiring in 7 mos.
and we would like to get started on job hunting. I have all the information here with me.
Please let me know prices and what I need to do next.
We have a wide range of formats to select from: printed and digitized Résumés,
Cover Letters and diverse attachments. Web Résumé packages are popular since they
provide an amazing flexibility (for varied opportunities) and are
discounted based on your order. Formats start at $15 but, to be honest: people rarely
"go basic OR top-of-the-line" and it is unpredictable what someone might order,
or what we'd recommend without a consultation (which is free). You can
snail-mail, fax or e-mail data, call once we have your info for clarification and
know what you are shooting for; then we can best determine your needs and provide
details on services & formats. (We specialize in Military Conversions). Once
we've reviewed your materials, we can recommend accordingly-- but the decision is yours.
How
do I add hyper-text to my electronic resume?
Hotlinks are "do-able" on .doc files with MS WORD (check the help file on
your software); if you use AOL, refer to: On Sending Hot
Links!
To
add some info - do you want to tell me how to do it or let you know? What did you say
about index in the url?
If you want to add-- please let us know and we'll add for you, because your web résumé
is copyrighted; linked at this site. You can create another .htm file if you like, to do
with as you please and simply use a different URL (eg. different file name).
You have seven screen names on AOL and can FTP a whopping two MBs to each (that's
lotsa' space!) but if you decide to do so there or elsewhere, you will want to
check out: Free Web Space Guide (there are pros &
cons to all; AOL is easy for simpler html but with advanced, such as image maps &
java-- they just don't fly as well). On creating your own page, it's a good idea
using "index.html" because it makes URLs much shorter, for example-- www.yourname.com
Any
easy way to register my web page?
We recommend www.addme.com for simplicity
but see search engines for more!
Any
advice on who has the best free web space?
Please see Free Web Pages!
